Album

Load featured a new Metallica logo, and a new 4M Star logo. US singles released were Until It Sleeps, Hero of the Day and King Nothing. Trivia: Metallica had originally wanted to release Load as a double album. This plan was scrapped because of problems recording so many songs at one time, so as a result, Metallica decided release half of the songs on this album and the rest on ReLoad, which would eventually be released 17 months later. The cover of the album is original artwork entitled ''Semen and B. Load is the sixth studio album by the American heavy metal band Metallica, released on June 4, 1996 by Elektra Records in the United States and by Vertigo Records internationally. The album showed more of a hard rock side of Metallica than the band's typical thrash metal style, which alienated much of the band's fanbase. It also featured influences from genres such as Southern rock, blues rock, country rock and alternative rock. Drummer Lars Ulrich said about Load's more exploratory nature, This. Is it because I am a fan of Metallica's earlier then Load music Is it because I love Die Krupps, Birmingham 6 and Razed in Black Is it because I love it when a cover is enjoyable yet sounds nothing like the original Is it because these songs can spark me, jilt me, and zing me the way Metallica did when they first did these songs I love Cleopatra for these cover albums. Basically, Metallica songs covered by underground artists with drum machines, samplers, synth bassguitar lines & 'Dalek' vocals - It is enjoyable . Delivered five years after their eponymous black album in 1991, Load captures Metallica settling into an uneasy period of maturation. Under the guidance of producer Bob Rock, Metallica have streamlined their sound, cutting away most of the twisting, unpredictable time signatures and the mind-numbingly fast riffs. What's left is polished - and disappointingly straightforward - heavy metal. Metallica's attempts at expanding their sonic palette have made them seem more conventional than they ever have before
