Redbone's conversational style fits anywhere from a coffeehouse setting to a concert to hawking detergent on TV. Here, in this reissue of an album he cut in 1987, he takes on everything from country & western tunes the opening Diamonds Don't Mean a Thing and Lovesick Blues, which features a dialogue with Hank Williams, Jr. to old favorites like Someday Sweetheart, Somebody Stole My Gal, and Aw You Salty Dog. Leon Redbone Format: Audio Cassette. Leon Redbone has built a career on exploring mostly American music from the pre-World War 2 era. With his idiosyncratic gruff singing voice and dextrous acoustic guitar work, he constructs a world where rock and roll never existed. On this album, he has some fine musical guests - including Dr John on piano, a lively horn section all conjuring up a rich palette of sounds and styles. His albums don't deviate from the formula set on his early albums, but that's no bad thing it was good then, and it is only slightly refined now.
