If you're only ever going to get one disc of the music of Gustav Holst, one of them should be a recording of The Planets. Brilliantly scored, wonderfully evocative, and wholly memorable, The Planets is justly Holst's most popular work and there have been dozens of great recordings of the work from the first Boult to the last. This is a discography of The Planets, Op. 32, an orchestral suite by Gustav Holst, written between 1914 and 1916, and first performed by the Queen's Hall Orchestra conducted by Adrian Boult on 29 September 1918. It includes the composer's own recordings made in 1922-23 and 1926. Free postage. Neilsen Springtime in Funen 5055031311347 by Odense Symphony ORCH CD. Trending price. Ravel - Piano Concerto - Hickox returned to Holst in 2007, embarking on a new series, with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales. He was recording what would have been the second volume of this survey when he was suddenly taken ill. Though that disc now will never be finished, the first instalment was released in January 2009 on SACD CHSA 5069 and seen as a recording triumph, presenting neglected works advocated by a legendary conductor. For those familiar with Gustav Holst only from his The Planets suite, you're in for a treat if you'll give this disc a chance. No, it's not The Planets. Album 1995 7 Songs.
