That, and Frans Brüggen's Orchestra of the 18th Century which plays vibrato free with such gusto and force, with such heft listen to the timpani rolling into your room threateningly one moment and then with the most subtle delicacy the next, that the experience of listening to this concerto becomes eerily visceral. Enter Zehetmair with vibrato and playing the Schneiderhan cadenzas in the Violin Concerto and the two Romances. Verified Purchase. This is a wonderful performance of the 2 Romances and Concerto. I particularly like the choice of tempo for the F major Romance it is so often played too slowly. Read more. Ludwig van Beethoven, 2 romances for violin and orchestra. Thomas Zehetmair - violin Orchestra of the 18th Century, Frans Brüggen - had previously written a number of pieces for violin and orchestra. At some point in 17902, before his musical maturity, he began a Violin Concerto in C, of which only a fragment of the first movement survives. Whether the work, or even the first movement, had ever been completed is not known. In any event, it was neither performed nor published. Later in the 1790s, Beethoven had completed two Romances for violin first the Romance in F and later the Romance in G. 1997: Thomas Zehetmair, Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century, Frans Brüggen, Philips First choice by BBC Radio 3 Building a Library, September 2003.
